This passage is adapted from Rohinton Mistry, A Fine Balance. © 1995 by Rohinton Mistry. Maneck Kohlah, a teenager from a remote mountain village in India, has been away at boarding school. A new road has just been
built to the village, where Maneck's family owns a store.

Summary:Since the road was built near M's house, the economy has developed and it is changing every day. This made his father unable to accept this change for a while. My father's temper has become weird, and the father and son never quarrel. The strange thing is that every time my father writes a letter full of love and longing, he quarrels when they meet. Mom's statement is to understand Dad's unsuitability to this change.

Questions 11-20 - History- October 2018 Asia SAT Test QAS

This passage is excerpted from a speech delivered by African American composer and musician Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington to a group of Los Angeles,California, churchgoers on February 12, 1941.

Summary:At the beginning, the author introduced the right to speak of black people, and expanded the various contributions of black people to American society, including culture, art, and social construction through a poem "WE, TOO, SING AMERICA" by Hughs. From the time the blacks participated in the war to the moment they were sold as slaves to the American continent, they have been contributing to American society. They never play a minor role. Finally, black people are still the injection of American society, the well-being of the United States that they continue to inspire and urge.

Questions 32-42 - Social Science- October 2018 Asia SAT Test QAS

This passage is adapted from Joseph Stromberg, "A Book's Vocabulary Is Different If It Was Written during Hard Economic Times." © 2014 by Smithsonian Institution.

Summary:If future archaeologists cannot trace human civilization from the literature of the 20th century, then perhaps they can make surprising discoveries from the peak of the economy and the depression. The situation in the United States and the United Kingdom is completely opposite. In the United States, literature has a close relationship with economic opinions. The 1940s was a depression in American literature, which followed the Great Depression of the 1930s. There are two main reasons for this ten years later: first, writing takes a lot of time and cannot be published during the Great Depression; second, the novel was created by the author, and the author’s childhood memory does not completely match his adult thoughts .Compared to Britain, the connection between literature and economy is not so obvious, because British writers choose words based on their surroundings when they create.
